Ingegneria Progetti is an Italian engineering company based in Palermo - Italy, that operates across infrastructure, hydraulics, systems, geotechnics and structural design with multidisciplinary teams. In one of their latest surveying projects, Ingegneria Progetti was commissioned by a major electricity transmission network operator to collecting and map data over a 20 km route to reduce construction risks for the construction of a high voltage underground power line in the city of Messina, Sicily - Italy.

50,000 sqm of on-site data acquisition

The objective of the survey was the complete mapping of all underground utilities located within the vicinity of the project alignment. The on-site data acquisition took place across 50,000 sqm across a wide range of asphalted urban environments, including both narrow streets and major roadways. Scanning a linear route over 20 km was a big challenge taken over by a combination of two IDS GeoRadar GPR systems: Stream UP and Stream DP that delivered a reliable and fast performance across small to large and complex areas.

As a result, the entire on-site activity was completed in just 3 working days by a team of 2 field technicians.

Enhancing productivity in post-processing analysis with AiMaps

All collected data, was uploaded into IQMaps, the advanced software application for GPR data analysis. With real‑time processing, 3D visualisation, and no limitations on dataset size, IQMaps is particularly suited for managing large‑area acquisitions. Given the extensive dataset, the team integrated AiMaps, the AI-based tool fully integrated within IQMaps, from the very early stages of post‑processing. AiMaps offers intelligent cloud processing of GPR data, providing an enhanced tomography that delivers a clear, straightforward view of underground assets.

Post‑processing phase was carried out over 5 working days by 2 highly specialised team members.
